Sawyer will join Southend for their pre-season programme
Southend United have agreed to sign Chelsea midfielder Lee Sawyer on a six-month loan deal.
Sawyer, 19, spent the first three months of last season at Roots Hall, scoring three goals in 13 appearances.
The move is expected to be finalized later this week and will see Sawyer stay with the Blues until January 2010.
I know i'm old fashioned but why does the kid have to go on loan to a lower division club. Why can't you just sit all your stars down, tell them that the future of Chelsea is your main priority, not their egos, and tell them that throughout the season you would like to give your youngster a chance to shine.
Every LEAGUE game take 1 or 2 stars out and put in a couple of youngsters who you think deserve the chance to play with the big boys and show the fans what they have to offer. It's simple, Sir Alex does it.
I understand there's too much pressure to win these days, but you have to start somewhere, Grass Roots would be the best place.
